Akshay Kumar Reveals Why He Loves To Do Socially Conscious Films

Akshay Kumar has entertained us with his films for nearly two decades now. From doing mainstream films, the actor has evolved himself as an actor and has been taking up content driven movies. Airlift, Jolly LLB 2, Rustom, Gabbar Is Back, Special 26, Baby, Naam Shabana and OMG: Oh My God are some of the best movies which delivers a strong message. Akki has perfectly nailed all the characters in these movies and they proved to be blockbuster at the box-office.

In a recent media interaction, Akki revealed the reason behind doing socially conscious films. He said, “We are trying to address issues in films, with a dash of comedy, romance and action. My next film is Padman, which is based on sanitary napkins. More than 90 percent of Indian women can’t even afford them. It’s an issue not really talked about.”

There were a lot of controversies when the government announced that GST would be levied on sanitary pads. When he was asked whether this issue has be covered in the film? Akshay laughed and said, “Do you want me to do a documentary or a commercial film?”

He further added, “The film is about that issue, but it’s fictionalized and commercialized to appeal to all audiences.” He feels messages get through better when told entertainingly. Even when I’m giving advice to my son, I try to tell him that in a funny way.”

Revealing about his unfulfilled desire and a dream role that he hopes to get a chance to play, he said, “I want to play a psycho.”
