We are living in 21st century where people talk about equality. We have become so advanced in field of technology, education, infrastructure and everything else. Women are no more forced to live within the boundaries of 4 walls. In fact, they have been doing wonders in every field. But its saddening to see how they still become the victim of patriarchy.
Women are still not given equal opportunities, be it the much progressive Bollywood industry. Women are still judged on the length of her skirt.
While common women are slut shamed and body shamed all the time, even Bollywood actresses face the same issue.
Here are 8 times when bollywood beauties were slut shamed by our patriarchal society:
1- Lisa Haydon:
Actress Lisa Haydon who recently became a mother shared a beautiful picture of herself breastfeeding her baby. Their wasn’t anything unnatural in the photograph, but people chose to troll her for obvious reasons. The picture was uploaded for a good reason with a meaningful caption. She had written, “I’ve gotten loads of posts asking about life after having my son… esp to do with weight and fitness. Seeing as it’s World Breastfeeding Week- time to give some credit where credit is due. Breastfeeding has played such a big part in getting back into shape after giving birth to my baby. Breastfeeding has been challenging+time consuming (literally hours spent everyday trying to stimulate milk supply) but it’s such a beautiful way to bond and connect with your child plus all the nutritional benefits that your child gets from your milk. But few people shamed her very badly for bizarre reasons. Lisa had to ultimately disable the comment section for her post!
2- Disha Patani:
Disha Patani is an internet sensation these days, who sometimes give fashion goals to every girl out there, and rest of the time, amazes everyone with her exotic dance moves. She keeps on updating sexy pictures from her magazine photoshoots on her Instagram profile. Recently, she was body shamed for wearing a way too revealing dress during Filmfare awards. The dress exposed a part of her breasts and people got a reason to treat her with hateful messages.
However, she gave it back to the comments with a message that read, “Have been reading so many news lately on molestation and rape! When people in our country are worshiping goddesses what a shame for not being respectful enough to know certain boundaries that make you a human and not an animal! It’s easier to judge a woman on the basis of how much they cover up their skin, but it’s hard to accept your own cheap mentality where you can’t stop staring at those inappropriate areas which you are asking her to cover! Wake up and start accepting that we are not going to be anybody’s idea of an “Indian girl” don’t let your frustration destroy somebody’s life because you won’t be happy if it happens in your own family! Stop this hypocrisy and open your mind!”
3- Fatima Sana Shaikh:
‘Dangal’ actress Fatima Sana Shaikh had done a sexy photoshoot and posted some pictures in a one piece swimsuit on her Instagram. But never did she knew that she will get body shamed for those pictures. she was also shamed on basis of her Muslim religion. Yet, the actress chose to ignore this negativity.
4- Priyanka Chopra:
Priyanka Chopra has been making us feel proud with her victory in Bollywood as well as Hollywood. She has got much fan following internationally. And still, she is given the lessons of what to wear and what not! Recently, the actress met with our prime Minister Narendra Modi, and their picture went viral for the wrong reasons. Pee Cee was shamed with the comment that she doesn’t know how to dress in front of PM.
This was one of the most bizarre comment to read. The actress, however, gave it back into the face of all the haters by updating another picture of herself with her mom in which they both were seen flaunting the legs. She captioned it as, “Legs for days”. Well, that was the sassiest reply to the haters.
5- Esha Gupta:
‘Baadshaho’ actress Esha Gupta is currently so much in news, for she has been putting some really sexy pictures on her Instagram account. She uploaded pictures in white lingerie, and then in black one. In one picture, she is seen holding just pomegranates in her hand, hiding her breasts while another picture showed her sleeping on a bed wearing nothing but socks, revealing her butt.
The actress was badly shamed, that she eventually disabled the comment section and kept on sharing more pictures.
6- Deepika Padukone:
The haters have not even left beautiful actress Deepika Padukone in peace. They body shamed her in one of her latest picture upload in which she was referred ‘Malnourished’. Yet the actress didn’t get affected by the comments and still continues to mesmerise with sexy pictures.
7- Malaika Arora:
Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan recently ended their marriage. But people chose to make the most bizarre comment on the actress. Malaika recently uploaded beautiful pictures from her vacation in New York during IIFA festival. But people accused her of divorcing her husband to extract a good amount of alimony for her holidays and beauty trips.
However, Malaika couldn’t take such comments and wrote, “I do not indulge in such conversation coz it’s below my dignity, but I just had to feelgoodfabric coz u certainly got to get ur damn facts right before spewing shit n slagging me off when u know nothing bout me.except sit n pass judgement on other people’s life.i seriously suggest u find something to do with ur time coz u clearly have nothing better to do in life.”
8- Soha Ali Khan:
Last year, Soha Ali Khan had tweeted about the exit of Raghuram Rajan as RBI Governor. She had tweeted, “Profound loss for India that @RBIGov #RaghuramRajan has been forced to exit. He can only help those who want to help themselves. Shame.”
To this, people questioned about her knowledge of economics. People live with a myth that beautiful girls don’t have a mind. Before questioning about the knowledge of Soha, they did not check the facts that Soha has completed her education from world’s best institute ‘London School of Economics and Political Science.’
But, Soha shut up the trolls with a single tweet that read, “LSE doesn’t stand for the London School of Entertainment and “dumb actresses” are citizens with valid opinions on economic policy ..nuffsaid.”
