Badminton player Jwala Gutta slams social media trollers for saying her mother ‘anti-Modi’
Star Indian badminton player Jwala Gutta, is no stranger to internet trolls and the two-time Olympian has proven time and again that she is a ‘Boss’ when it comes to shutting down those trollers.
Due to the long-standing tussle between the Indian Army and China’s People Liberation Army (PLA) at Doklam, a few internet trolls also tried to link the matter to Jwala’s mother’s roots and even attacked her sister Insi on Twitter.
On Saturday, a random twitter user with a handle named @Siddhuheart tweeted to Jwala’s sister Insi,”Is it because your mother is from China that y u oppose Modi everytime?”. Jwala, whose mother Yelen is Chinese, was clearly upset with the tweet and shot back.
A person with Twitter handle ‘Xerox Boy’ wrote to Jwala, “did u ever think being a chinese citizen would have given u more opportunities in badminton? any regrets being Indian?” (sic)
The badminton star replied saying she is a proud Indian.
Once upon a time, Jwala was seen as the reason behind the split of former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin with his wife Sangeeta Bijlani. One of the trolls, who also tried joining the gang troubling Jwala, was also shot down.
This wasn’t the first time the 33-year-old has taken on a troll. Jwala is among the few Indian athletes who speaks her mind and doesn’t shy away from taking a position on issues that make headlines.
