Like Tamil Nadu, Puducherry did not authorize helmets for pillion riders for quite a long time but rather the Madras High Court in 2015 requested the police to implement the law on the defensive headgear. In February, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy proclaimed that bike riders would mandatorily need to wear helmets from 1 May this year.
