The poor 10-year old rape victim delivers baby, after court rejected her plea for abortion

You can consider this as one of the darkest event of the nation and humanity too. The 10 year old innocent rape victim, who survived the agony but she is not seeing any sign of relief in her life. The girl plea to abort was denied by the apex court last month. The victim delivered a baby after sustaining a C-section at Chandigarh’s Goverment Medical College on Thursday. The girl was not aware of the delivery at all, she was told that the fetus in her stomach is big stone which can cause health problem to her. The doctor assured the poor girl that the surgery is done to remove the stone from her stomach. The parent of the victim are not even allowed to see the born baby. The 10-year-old girl is kept alone in a special room.

GMCH’s director AK Janmeja said “both mother and child are healthy.” The infant’s weight is 2.1 kg and has been admitted to the neo-natal ICU. The girl parent urged the authority to keep the baby for adoption. Dr Dasari Harish, chairperson of the committee which had been constituted for treatment of the rape victim, described the C-section procedure as “uneventful“, though it was a “high-risk pregnancy“. “A team of doctors was involved in delivering the child. In the team, there were three gynaecologists, an anaesthetist, a neonatologist and a paediatrician,” he said. Both the child and mother are kept under special observation of under special doctors.He said, “We’ll keep the child under observation for maximum five days. She is being provided milk via a milk bank. Only when we feel that the child is healthy, she’ll be taken by Child Welfare Committee, which is a part of the Social Welfare Department. We’ve submitted a report to Chandigarh administration.”Janmeja said that the treatment expenses of the rape victim are being borne by the Chandigarh administration. “The hospital will take proper care of them in future too. The hospital will provide them free facilities,” he said.

The convict and filthy uncle of the girl raped her for several months- without considering  the age of her niece and showing some mercy on her. The unholy crime came into people’s eyes when the victim was taken to hospital on complaining of stomach ache last month. When the doctor surveyed the girl, they found the girl to be over 30 weeks pregnant. After the investigation, the culprit uncle was arrested and trial for rape will start soon.


On July 28, the Supreme Court rejected the plea of abortion considering, adjourning the 32-week-old pregnancy of the rape girl will not be good for the unborn baby and for the girl according to medical experts.A bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud took note of the report of the medical board set up by Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, to examine the rape survivor and the consequences if the termination was allowed.

The PIL was filed by the advocate of the rape survivor after a Chandigarh district court didn’t permit the girl go through the abortion process. Courts allow medical termination of pregnancy up to 20 weeks under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act and can make an exception if the fetus is genetically abnormal.The Supreme court is taking some big action for cases related to early abortion.
