Will newly launched JioPhone be a game changer? Experts opinion!

Recently, the chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani had announced the launch of a new 4G feature phone which they called JioPhone.

Certainly, the company aimed to capture to capture a bigger share of the 50 crore feature phone market. And that is why, they are offering free voice calls and unlimited data in JioPhone with a plan priced at Rs. 153 a month.

Not only this, customers will have to deposit a security of Rs. 1,500 which is refundable after three years on return of the device. This is an “effectively free” cost device.

However, now the question is that will JioPhone be a game-changer for Jio as well as for the entire industry? While some analysts are expecting JioPhone to boost company’s profitability, few have some different opinion about it.

A well recongnised expert Devan Choksey shares that the entire business is moving as far as telecommunications is concerned. It is only the maker company which will be moving, so it is an important aspect.

He also shares that voice being made free completely in the system is going to be the most important deal.

“Important aspect is about how the entire business is moving as far as telecommunications is concerned. There is a technology which they have adopted which is allowing them to combine the data and voice together. That is basically, I think, quite advanced and disruptive too in nature at the same time. Disruptive more because ultimately it is going to result into voice being made free completely in the system, which is the current revenue model of most telcos,” Deven added up.

Also, within one year when Jio entered to an already competitive market, many competitor players had to revise their data tariffs and even introduced new aggressive plans to protect their market share.

Another expert A K Prabhakar feels that Jio’s target audience is little different because the phone is a very basic, but it has 4G. It is going to target the common users who uses phone just to make calls and receive ones.

Also he says that because it comes at zero cost effectively, people will readily go for it.

Icing on the cake is that Jio has also announced a ‘JioPhone TV cable’, which can be connected with any television set to view content on the TV screen.
